How to find local foods

So you don’t belong to a CSA (community supported agriculture), and you’re just not sure what to pick in your natural food store’s sprawling veggie section? Here’s a tip: Go online to find out what foods are growing in your neck of the woods. Log onto the NRDC Food Miles page, enter in your state and the season, and the site will tell you what local foods are available this time of year.

Here are some other local-food resources worth checking out.

Door To Door Organics: Read Elisa’s blog on local foods from September 2006.

Food Routes: Read our interview with Food Routes Network director, Tim Schlitzer.

Local Harvest: Search this site for farmers markets and restaurants that serve local, organic food.

Sustainable Table: Get answers to all your questions about what why eat local.
