Organic market strong, despite economy
Despite soaring oil and ingredient prices, U.K. analysts expect the demand for organics to remain strong for two reasons: First, demand still outstrips supply. And second, according to the NutraIngredients report organic farming is less dependent on oil:
…research found organic production uses 26 per cent less energy than non-organic per kilogram of food, largely because of the absence of energy-intensive artificial fertiliser.
Will the same factors buoy U.S. organic markets? I bet they will.
