Omega-3 cookbook
One of my favorite DL recipe developers, chef Alan Roettinger, just came out with his first cookbook, Omega-3 Cuisine. Let me tell you, his cooking is great — creative, absolutely delicious, and healthy, with a special focus on getting more omega-3s into your diet. With the recent news about salmon fisheries in trouble, his use of flaxseed oil is an excellent (and vegetarian) way to boost your omega-3 intake. I haven’t even seen a copy of the book yet, but having worked with him on stories for Delicious Living (including the Sept07 food feature on good fats, plus a couple other upcoming recipe stories), I have no hesitation in saying that it’s going to be a winner. You can buy it on his website … and soon, in health food stores and on Amazon.

I just checked out the Omega-3 cuisine Web site and I am so excited to check out the book! As a vegetarian, I’ve had a bottle of Udo’s oil in my fridge for a very long time, but I’m not sure how to use it because I know that heating it will destroy the omega-3’s. Judging from the recipes on the Web site, the cookbook will have a lot of great options for vegans and tips for using my Udo’s while keeping it’s nutritional benefits in tact.

Yes, Alan knows some awesome ways to use Udo’s oil; he’s a major fan. And he’s all about keeping those delicate omega-3s from getting damaged. Once you try some of the recipes, let us know what you think!

That is awesome!! I know Omega 3’s can impact your life especially if you have a medical condition. I began taking this supplement 2 years ago and have noticed increased alertness That alone is a good enough reason to take it when you are on the road and awake by 5 am. Though I’ve tried many brands, right now I m on a “trial” with Neurovi’s Omega 3. I felt more comfortable with it since it is pharmaceutical grade and IMO one of the best out there.
However, I have been wanting to actually include this nutrient in my diet so this book is going to be a HUGE help! Thanks for that info
To a healthy life!!

Congratulations for being proactive with your health! I agree, omega-3s are a godsend. And cooking with omega-3 oils (especially flaxseed) is easier than you might think. Have fun with the recipes! (p.s. Check out the recipes that the author did for DL; search for “a fat lot of good” in the search box, upper right corner of the DL homepage. The smoked trout salad is incredible.)
