Where to find certified sustainable corks

If you’re like me and are concered about the steady migration to sealing wine with twist-off caps and synthetic corks rather than with traditional–and renewable–natural cork, check out Willamette Valley Vineyards’ 2006 pinot noir. WVV sealed this new-on-the-shelves vintage with corks certified sustainable by the Rainforest Alliance and the Forest Stewardship Council. (Incidentally, the wine bar I worked at in college served WVV’s pinot and it rocks: pure bright fruit and a soft Jolly Rancher tang.) Basically, the certification ensures that the wine, which is also Salmon Safe, uses cork harvested from sustainably managed Mediterranean forests.
